Smarted Projects

Smarted is an innovative start-up company focused on the development of technologies based on cognitive sciences

Founded by three PhDs in neuroscience, psychology and artificial intelligence,
Smarted analyses the need for psychological intervention,
designs quantitative models and develops ad hoc hybrid technologies.

Enhancing University Language courses with an App powered by game-based Learning and tangible user Interfaces Activities

Smarted is EULALIA’s leader, and it’s responsible for the design and implementation of the project’s Android app, as well as the mastermind behind the project proposal. EULALIA aims at developing a methodology for language teaching/learning designed for Erasmus students by using inclusive and multisensory methodologies based on tangible user interfaces (TUI) and mobile learning, with the production of a creation tool for the mobile framework. An important aspect of the project will be the co-creation of scenarios with professors, teachers and Erasmus students, allowing a collaborative system based on OERs (Open Educational Resources).

Tangible User Interfaces (TUI) are a groundbraking innovation in the field of language learning. Smarted is producing applications that allow each student to develop experiential learning and perform long-lasting exercises by exploring physical maps with their smartphone, or using real objects (physical interfaces) in a space, stimulating all of the senses (including smell and taste). This way, in addition to being linguistic, learning is also  cultural and practical at the same time, in the same place where they spend their study period abroad.

The project is funded by the European Community, in the call KA2 Erasmus+, Universities sector.

Digital Creativity ENhanced in Teacher Education

In DoCENT, Smarted srl was in charge of implementing the project’s app by coordinating the co-creation with Universities, Research Centres and Companies. The app is a serious game targeting teachers’ instructors and teachers themselves in order to promote teaching strategies aimed at digital creativity, i.e. promoting creativity with digital and innovative tools. Through the use of the app, teachers can simulate classroom situations in contexts that involve the “digital” sphere in a broad sense, concretely experiencing the management of digital creativity in a learning environment that allows for the management of the error and its subsequent interception.

Smarted developed the app in 5 languages (English, Italian, Bulgarian, Greek and Spanish), and integrated it into the MOOC on digital creativity.

Specifically, the DoCENT project tackled three innovation directives: Tangible User Interfaces, robotics, and digital creation / digital games. These applications were used to improve creative expression in the digital environment.

The project is funded by the European Community, in the KA2 Erasmus+ call, University sector.

Mooc in Enology aimed at Reinforcing competences applying Game-based approach and Olfactive learning for the wine tasting

Smarted is the promoter of a groundbreaking MERGO idea: producing an innovative learning platform, linked to a MOOC, to be employed in university courses such as enology and viticulture. Smarted is in charge of the technological management of the platform, based on tangible interfaces (TUIs) allowing olfactory and experiential learning for students. This kind of learning is designed to run in parallel to the formal lessons developed by the MOOC.

The project is funded by the European Community, in the KA2 Higher Education Erasmus+ call.

Attain Cultural integration through COnflict Resolution skill Development

Smarted srl was in charge of designing and developing the serious game in the ACCORD project, and enabling its full integration with the MOOC on Interethnic Conflict Management for teachers. The game aims at supporting teachers in managing conflicts and dealing with cultural diversity. The player (the teacher) has to manage a dialogue with a 3D artificial avatar in a classroom situation, dealing with conflicts arising from cultural integration issues.

The project is funded by the European Community, in the call KA3 Erasmus+.

The project ended in 2016 and produced a serious game that can be played as a demo on www.enactgame.eu.

The European project ENACT stems from the observation of a common need in Europe for flexible, accessible and affordable learning tools that allow heterogeneous groups of people to learn skills in an informal and autonomous way.

ENACT partners have worked in synergy to develop an innovative pedagogical method with a strong evaluation system designed to improve negotiation skills based on current psychological models and on ICT research, ranging from e-learning to artificial intelligence. Negotiation is widely regarded as a key element that allows not only to communicate effectively, but also to improve other social skills thanks to its flexibility with respect to changing environments and situations.

ENACT has built a learning methodology in the form of an online game designed to bring practical skills to the forefront through technology that employs intelligent agents as virtual players’ interlocutors. Furthermore, intelligent tutoring systems provided reliable analyses of the players’ negotiation skills and communication style.

SMARTED owns the technology that’s been used to develop the Serious Game, and allows for the customisation of interactive scenarios with tailor-made avatars to suit each client’s needs.

Adaptive LEArning in Statistics

Within the project, Smarted is leading the creation of the ALEAS App. The App aims to act as an adaptive and intelligent statistics workbook, allowing students to learn on their own, even remotely through their smartphone or tablet. Smarted led the writing of the project. Each student’s learning path is adapted according to their results, allowing for feedback and specific thematic teaching support, evaluating the user’s psychological approach.

The aim of the project is to introduce a learning platform through an adaptive system that is able to lower students’ anxiety levels with regard to mathematics and statistics, especially considering those Courses of Study where the statistics exam is considered to be quite problematic (e.g. psychology, education sciences, political sciences, etc.).

The project is funded by the European Community, in the call KA2 Erasmus+, University sector.

Smarted is a partner in the Knights of the EU Grail project, acting as a bridge between the content management and technology partners, offering its expertise in the field of Game Based Learning. Within the project, Smarted is responsible for contributing to the development of the learning platform (app) and the artificial intelligence modules.

The learning platform of the project aims at producing a mobile application for language learning (A1/A2) designed for children by using the medieval historical context, through gamification elements.

The project is funded by the European Community, in the call KA2 Erasmus+, School sector.
